Day 171 Stone Crest

Have you seen Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone or Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets? If you have then you may have seen this carved stone…ok probably not because it is on the ceiling and it is actually pretty small.  This carving, and many other stone carvings, live on the ceiling in the Divinity School of the Bodleian Library.

There are two types of these little carvings.  One type is the first letter of the last name of a member and the other type is the a family shield of a member.  The Divinity School played the role of Hogwarts hospital wing.

Until next time,

  1. I have never noticed this carving until you mentioned it!

    • Most people don’t think to look up, or down, or through the tiny cracks. It is something that I taught myself this year because a years worth of pictures sounds easy, but you quickly run out of new and unique things to take pictures of. Thanks for leaving a comment.

  2. I’ve never noticed the carvings in the Harry Potter movies.. and I just love those movies. I will have to go back and check.

  3. I haven’t watched a Harry Potter film for ages, I knew Hogwarts banquet hall was in Christchurch but had no idea about the hospital wing, will have to look into that too. Thanks. 🙂

Let me know what you think!
