Day 209 Harvest

Yes, we have officially passed the harvest time of year, I took this back at the beginning of October.  I loved the number of apples hanging from trees in the parks, people’s gardens, and the apples that were being set out in a box marked “free cooking apples”.  Apples were everywhere!  I even tried my hand at making apple sauce, it turned out great…but I did have to double the amount of sugar.

Until next time,

  1. I am not a fan of apple sauce.. but I think I may actually love homemade apple sauce. Wonderful shot and post

    • Oh but fresh apple sauce is so yummy!

4 large cooking apples (like Granny Smith)
      4 Tbs (55 g /2oz) sugar
      Juice of 1 lemon
      4 Tbs (55 g /2oz) butter

Peel core and slice apples, place in a sauce pan with sugar and lemon juice and a tablespoon of water and simmer until soft. Stir in butter and mash leaving some lumpy bits. Taste and add more sugar if needed. 🙂
